Metaphorical Narrative
Afternoons bring a familiar visitor.
A small bunny hops across your field of focus, nibbling at your attention.
It is not fierce like a wolf, nor heavy like a bear β it is subtle, quiet.
But each nibble leaves your task thinner, your energy scattered.
The bunny is not yours.
Core Insight
This afternoon vigilance is low-grade but persistent.
The DMN creates a background hum of social rehearsal, scanning for attention, keeping an eye out for imagined eyes.
Because itβs small, it often passes undetected. But over time, it drains as surely as larger loops.
The key is to notice the bunny and name it.
By saying, βThis bunny is not mine,β you break ownership and return presence to the task.
Saturday Experiment
- Set a timer for 25 minutes in the afternoon.
- Each time you catch a vigilance nibble, say: βNot mine β bunny.β
- Immediately resume with one micro-step (type one sentence, move cursor, send line).
Sunday Reflection
Write in third person:
- How often did the bunny appear this week?
- What changed when they named it?
- How did they feel once the bunny hopped out?
