The Phantom Demand

When you feel coerced by an invisible ‘they’ that doesn’t exist.

Ego Authority Freedom

Metaphorical Narrative

Arms twisted behind the back — that’s how it feels. A faceless crowd hovers, whispering: “Do this, prove that, stay in line.”

But when you turn around, the crowd is fog. No one is there. The force was memory, not reality.

The arms untwist. The phantom evaporates. You stand, uncoerced.

Core Insight

Ego replays the sensation of external pressure. It invents a “they” to twist your will. But the demand has no owner. It’s a fog, not an authority.

Saturday Experiment

  1. Catch the twist → “I feel forced.”
  2. Ask: Who is demanding this? Can I name them?
  3. If no one is real, release the phantom. Untwist.

Sunday Reflection

Write about someone who fights an invisible crowd. What happens when the crowd vanishes into fog and they realize no one was holding them at all?
