Permission

Metaphorical Narrative

Imagine a gatekeeper who has always handed out permission slips to everyone but you. Each day, you’ve queued up, hoping they would finally say yes. But today, you realize the paper and pen were in your pocket all along. You can write your own permission slip: “Please myself — Me please me.”

The crowd behind you fades away. The gate swings open, not because anyone else allowed it, but because you gave yourself permission to walk through.

Core Insight

So much stress comes from waiting for approval, validation, or acceptance. The truth is you don’t need a signature from anyone else. You can choose self-care without apology. You can also say no to everything that pulls you away from it. The liberation is in knowing that your needs matter first, not last.

Saturday Experiment

  • Write a literal “permission slip” for yourself today — one sentence that starts with I give myself permission to…
  • Choose one obligation you don’t actually want to do, and decline it with kindness.
  • Use the freed time for something that feels like care: rest, play, or simply breathing in peace.

Sunday Reflection

  • How did the act of writing your own permission slip shift the way you felt?
  • In what ways did saying no feel like saying yes to yourself?
  • Looking back, would an observer describe you as someone who waited for permission — or someone who gave it to themselves?
