Anxiety Presence

Metaphorical Narrative

In a quiet café, three dogs live out three ways of being.

The big dog sits by the window, fluffy and unbothered, soaking up sun with a slow tail wag. He doesn’t need to prove anything — his very presence fills the room.

The small dog is everywhere at once, darting under tables, barking at shadows, desperate to be noticed. The café laughs at his energy, but beneath the performance is a pulse of anxiety.

The very little dog is carried like a toy. Petted, cooed over, but never seen as serious.

When life pulls us into restless striving, most of us slip into small dog mode. We confuse movement with meaning. But there’s a way back: a protocol to re-inflate into calm, grounded presence.

Core Insight

Presence isn’t about puffing up or being everywhere at once.
It’s about fluffing out — taking natural space, steady, unforced. The shift from small dog to big dog is less about effort and more about settling into what’s already yours: space, breath, and worth.

Saturday Experiment

This weekend, test the Small Dog → Big Dog Protocol:

  1. Spot the Tailspin
Catch the signs: rushing thoughts, restless body, anxious push. Name it: “small dog.”

  2. Sit on the Floor
Pause. Hand on chest, hand on belly. Imagine paws grounded, body still.

  3. Fluff Out Instead of Puff Up
Breathe into the sides of your ribs. Expand naturally. Shoulders soften.

  4. Claim the Cushion
Pick one focus. Say: “This is enough. I am enough.” Occupy it fully.

  5. Radiate the Tail-Wag
Let a small smile or lightness radiate outward. Not chasing — just being.

Sunday Reflection

Write in third person about your shift:

  • Where did they notice their “small dog” restlessness most this week?
  • How did they guide themselves into “big dog” presence?
  • What did others feel differently when they carried that calm, steady energy?
